According to Shunde Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in the first half of 2008, Shunde woodworking machinery exports still maintained a good momentum of growth in the face of the adversity of heavy pressure. From January to June, the woodworking machinery exports in Shunde amounted to 985 batches, which cost 22.649 million U.S. dollars, increased by 13.7 percent and 28.4 percent respectively over the same period of last year.

Reportedly, the woodworking machinery manufacturing enterprises have tremendously been affected by the factors of continued appreciation of RMB, soaring steel price and rising labor cost and doldrums of the effectiveness of furniture factories. For example, the procurement price of ordinary steel was RMB 4,000 Yuan per ton last year, but which roses to RMB 7,000 per ton, with a markup of 75 percent.

At present, in excess of 40 enterprises in Shunde have acquired woodworking machinery export quality license. For the purpose of helping the enterprises to overcome difficulties in adversity and maintaining the honor of "Township of Woodworking Machinery", Shunde Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau encourages the enterprises to expand overseas market and guides them to improve product quality on the basis of strictly implementing the product inspection policies.
